Just 5 Things

When I want more stuff gone but I don't have time for a big search and purge I look for just 5 things to add to the donation box (or rubbish / recycling).

My five things:

1) A lovely little hand bag

It was a gift. It is beautiful. It is broken. It could be repaired. I won't be repairing it.
That makes it clutter.

a pretty, but broken, handbag - it's just clutter

2) More shoes.

The heels with the bow I wore to a wedding, the other heels were worn once or twice, but the dress they were for has been purged already. I can't wear high heels any more so it makes sense for these to go.

The flats are too small now that I've put on weight and the slip-on handbag-shoes were used for the event they were needed for. No real reason to hold onto them now other then that they are fairly new. I don't like them so why keep them? It's time for them all to go to new homes.

shoes I can't wear or don't like are just clutter

3) Glittery sprinkly things.

I've had these jars forever and ever and ever. Obviously I don't use them. I remembered what I learnt about things that glitter and decided it was time for them to go.

All that glitters is probably cllutter

4) Two cookbooks

Cookbooks that I never ever used and were not at all inspiring to me. They were an easy decision.

5) Greetings cards

I already have an excess of greeting cards.

Sorry, there's no photos of 4 & 5, we took a load of stuff to goodwill before I got to take photos

Find Just 5 Things to declutter

Okay, so technically that's more then 5 things, but that's good right?

It just goes to show that when I think I don't have something fast and easy to declutter if I just look for the odd item here and there I will probably find there's way more stuff that I really don't need in my home then I thought.

Actually, almost every time I look for 'just 5 things' I find more then 5 things.

  1. I am beginning that work this weekend. There is so much stuff that needs to find a new home. I've been thinking about buying the Marie Kando (?) book about tidying up but realized I already know what to do. I just need to do it...& my husband is skating on thin ice, talking about doing it for me while my mom & I travel the first week of June. It's funny because he's more of a pack rat than I am. *sigh*

    1. Those shoes are nice! But if I can't wear them why keep them? It's taken me about 2 years to let go of them. You should sell your refashioned pieces!

    1. I'm absolutely amazed at how much we have accumulated over the last decade. It's not even like we buy alot. It's crazy.

  4. This is actually a pretty neat way, I've done something similar called "1 item a day" for a month. Never took pictures tho haha.

I still have a lot of useless craft stuff around that I probably won't ever use.

    1. It makes such a huge impact when you keep at it. I used to be an all or nothing girl but now I'm big on lots of little bites (or 5 things at a time). Sorry for the late response.
