Purfylle: December 2015

Purfylling 2016

In 2015 purfylling my life meant decluttering and building routines for home-making and blogging.

As the year is coming to a close I look around and I can see that the clutter is no longer overwhelming, although there are still some areas that need attention. I've developed the necessary routines for managing our home and running the blog.

As 2016 approaches I can see that next year is going to be a little different. I am entering the next phase for purfylling life.

Next year I want to focus on purfylling appearances. Both mine and my home. Because when you look good you feel good. The blog will be getting a bit of attention in looking good too.

This is going to mean time and energy I previously spent on decluttering will now be spent on repairing and renovating, in small amounts as our budget allows, a lick of paint here, a small fix there, perhaps a new window treatment. There will still be some decluttering but not as much.

Too Busy Crafting To Blog Today

Work in progress - any guesses as to what it might be?

I'm making presents for Christmas, unless I run out of time, then there is the back-up plan

Any guesses as to what I'm making?

Banksia Flower

Banksia flower spike (inflorescence ) before anthesis
Last week you all wanted to know more about the banksia pod so here are some shots of the banksia flower in it's various lifecycle stages and the tree it comes from. It's been a long week and the shots really deserved more attention then I have the wherewithal to give them so here they are no cropping, no colour correction or brightening. They were all taken using my trusty 55mm-250mm lens.

Tip of the Week

Last week we asked you to see how easily others can find your social media buttons. This week we want to know your social sharing preference.
I like to read an article and then share on social media so I like the share buttons at the bottom of the post. Where do you like to find share buttons?
  • top of post
  • bottom of post
  • side of post (aka flares)
Let us know in the comments!

Crochet Terms Used On Purfylle

crochet hooks and terms
I've been on a bit of a crochet binge lately helped along by the unseasonal mild weather. With all this crochet activity to share with you I had best explain which crochet terms are used on Purfylle and why. I cover a little bit of history but you can jump to the end if you just want the answer straight up.

Tip of the Week

Tip of the week - How easy can I find your social media follow and share buttons?
While it's great that people are on your blog and reading your posts, it's nice when they follow you other places too. It means they care and are interested in you.
Can they easily find you? How easily can I find you? If I can't find your Twitter ID, I can't follow you.

Vintage Crochet Motif

Crochet Baby Blanket from Vintage Pattern
Last Monday we took a look at my neighbours unfinished baby blanket

It's completed now, with a sweet little border added to give it that finishing touch. I've got the original pattern to share with you too. My neighbour was thrilled to have this blanket all complete just when her grand-niece is 2 months old. The timing could not have been more perfect.

A New To Me Lens

Some shots are just too pretty not to share even with missed focus

I keep my extra lens in my camera bag, that's it's home, and it means when I am racing out the door I can just grab my camera bag and know it's got all it's goodies. So I was a little peeved at myself on our last photo walk when I opened my bag to find my 55-250mm zoom lens was not there.

Eivor's Crochet Granny Square Pattern

I was googling for some inspiration for a few crochet projects I have in mind when I stumbled across Annette's crochet bed-throw over at My Rose Valley. It was made for her by Eivor and has to be seen to truly be appreciated.

Annette's story inspired me to try and recreate the pattern based off the pictures she shares over on her blog. There was a lot of zooming in and stitch counting so I could get the square just like Eivor made her squares.

How To Set Achievable Blog Goals

Do you set blog goals? Do you find your goals easy to achieve?

If you answered 'No' to either of those questions the chances are you feel like your blog will never reach that elusive blog nirvana of a 'successful blog'.

Achieving your blog goals doesn't have to be elusive. A large part of being able to reach your goals is as simple as setting goals that are achievable in the first place.

Tip of the Week:

I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for ways to improve my blog. First, so I feel good about how it looks. Second, and more importantly, for you the readers! You're the ones who really matter.
With that said, how easily can you read this? How's the font type? The font size? Colour?
I'm hoping you said: simple and readable, large and dark enough. Now go check out your site. Keeping your fonts easy to read will keep your readers happy and coming back for more!
