Two Uses Tuesday Linky Party

It's been said that all good things must come to an end. Fun family getaways, this year and at this point in time... this party. It's been wonderful co-hosting Two Uses Tuesday but it is time to close up shop and move forward.

A very special thank you to my blogging buddy and our hostess, Sarah, for putting this party together for us every week. If it weren't for Sarah the party may never have got done out each week. She is one super organised woman.

But we still have a little bit of party left! You have two more chances to link up, this week at party 107 and next week at party 108!

Then, on 12/19, for Two Uses Tuesday 109 we will have our last set of regular features (from party 108) PLUS the best of the best from the past year. Double features! Sweet!

Thank you for joining us on this linkup party adventure!

Black Swan Cygnets

Black Swan Cygnet

These black swan cygnet shots were taken at the end of August and it's almost Christmas! This year seems to have just evaporated. It's hard to imagine these white fluff balls will grow up to be black.

Instruments For Laying Off The Patterns From The National Garment Cutter

National Garment Cutter: system of cutting and fitting

I had promised you all photos of the NGC rulers some time ago and I had every intention of bringing them to you long before now. It was my wish to do so in conjunction with sharing the 'General Instructions' for use of the instruments and some additional thoughts from my own experience in using the system.

Two Uses Tuesday 105

Two Uses Tuesday Linky Party
Two Uses Tuesday is LIVE until Thursday at 10pm EST (2am  Friday UTC).

I'm busy helping to save an old WWII ship from being destroyed.

Last week I built a new website for her: Historic Ship 1321. Take a look and let me know what you think for having being built and content added in only a week.

The ship and Magnus the puppy have me running around in circles so I would really appreciate an extra pair of eyes or two letting me know if I've missed anything. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.

Z Special Unit - Lest We Forget

Have you been following the progress of WWII Ship HDML 1321

Were you wondering if HDML 1321 would be destroyed before Remembrance Day?

If you've been keeping up to date on the SAVE 1321 page you will already know that she has the Darwin Port doing their best to rescue her!

Although she has faced a few obstacles in being lifted to dry land, it seems the Harbour Defence Motor Launch 1321 knows her place in history and how she played a significant role in WWII transporting the Z Special Unit Commandos for Operation Copper and as such intends to make a splash by being lifted from the water on this special day, Remembrance Day.

Two Uses Tuesday Linky Party
Two Uses Tuesday is LIVE until Thursday at 10pm EST (2am  Friday UTC).

I want to thank everyone who shared and helped to get the word out there about the WWII ship HDML 1321. The port has agreed to lift her from the water and dock her until funds can be raised.

Small tip for you this week, well, more of a suggestion
by Sarah

Enjoy life, yours and the ones you care about. Love, grieve, observe & remember. Experience every bit of it. Write it down. Go back and remember how you felt. Life is short and we should savor each moment.

Kookaburra Sitting In A Tree

laughing kookaburra sitting in a casuarina tree
This laughing kookaburra was just quietly sitting in this casuarina tree and I almost missed spotting him altogether.

We were on a very busy lake-side walking path and his camouflage was doing an excellent job of making him easily overlooked.

Will the WWII Ship HDML 1321 Be Destroyed Days Before Remembrance Day?

There are just a four days left before Darwin Port send salvage teams in to lift the HDML 1321 from the bottom of the harbour where she sank at her mooring during the night of the 19th October.

She will then be scrapped to recover cost unless funds can be raised for a private salvage team.

Last we heard a request for an extension of time to raise funds for private salvage was being submitted to the Port. We are all eager to know what the status is in regards to the historic ship HDML 1321.

The situation is precarious at best for her right now as negotiations with Darwin Port for an extension of time continue to remain unresolved.

The current deadline to have the HDML1321 privately lifted from the water is 6 November 2016, just 5 days before Remembrance Day.

We were hoping to know by now if the time extension had been granted or not, however we are still waiting. I am still hopeful that we can save this old girl and make some dreams come true too.

Why Should The HDML 1321 Be Saved?

WWII ship to be destroyed for salvage if Darwin Port gets it's way - Fundraiser hopes to save historic ship

Why should Harbour Defence Motor Launch 1321 be saved?

by Tracy Geddes

In 2006 I had no idea that the adventure about to unravel was to take place so far from the comforts of home, nor that it would cost so much.

There was a opportunity to purchase the ex-warship Harbour Defence Motor Launch -1321. The ship was advertised as 'full of history's of times long past', and as 'A chance to become custodians of a legacy of the ill fated (at times) Z Force Commandos.'

The Z Force were a band of courageous men that fought in the most gruelling conditions, men who gave their lives so that you and I might have a future in this land, our Australia.

This roller coaster ride took us (Geddes' family) to Gove Peninsula in the top end of Australia.

I recall the excitement as the plane circled. Which little dot down there was our warship?

We had invested $140,000 in purchasing the ship and an inheritance meant we had over $160,000 in funds to spend on bringing the boat back to it's WWII shape and take it back to its birthplace off Battery Point in Hobart, Tasmania.

The ship was not at all as described (in the sales advertisement). The HDML-1321 needed a lot of work on the engines and it took all our funds to make it ready to sail.

I have an extra special request today. We need to make some noise to save an old war ship or she will become scrap in less then 2 weeks. If you could share my post SAVE  HDML 1321 I will be extra grateful. Leave me a comment and I will be sure to return the favour.

Flirting Leads To...

Laughing Turtle Doves on a fence

I thought I was done with photographing the laughing doves for this breeding season, and then I saw them hanging out together on our fence. It seemed like they were discussing if they wanted more squabs this year or not.

Crochet Lace Tape Top

Crochet Lace Tape Asymmetrical Top - in progress

Finally my crochet lace tape project is back on the top of the to-do-list. I had this vision of it being an a-symmetrical top and it was sort of doing okay but in the end I just wasn't happy with how it was turning out.

Squabs

On the 17th of September I took some shots of the nesting laughing dove we thought might be sitting on eggs. Ten days later we got to see an eyeball peak out over the edge of the nest for the first time.

Did you take a second last week to just soak up the moment? To look at the sky, smell the air and feel the breeze on your skin? Did you do something special that you can only do at this time of year? I've been watching the baby doves grow up. (Pictures this Sunday!)

Unfinished Quilt

unfinished quilt still all wrinkled from storage

I'm Not A Quilter

I doubt I will ever be a quilter. I think quilters do amazing work and I am totally impressed with their skills and patience. But quilts frustrate me.

Which begs the question why did I start to make a quilt?

Tip of the week

Spend a few minutes, at least once a week, to just watch the good things in your life happen. Observe your loved ones and soak in the moment. Watch the steam dance off the surface of your favourite hot beverage. Take time to immerse yourself in the small things that make you feel good.

Rainbow Lorikeets

Rainbow Lorikeet Pair
I was so engrossed in designing a crochet edging yesterday I completely forgot to share my weekend photo. I hope it was worth the wait.

This gorgeous little parrot is a rainbow lorikeet. They are inquisitive and bold. Most tame birds that escape their aviary will perish in the wild, not these pioneering little rascals, they will happily set up camp and flourish. That is how they came to become Western Australian locals.

Sew...you want to start a sewing group?

Hot tea

This is my third cup of tea in as many hours. I hope I actually get to finish it before it goes cold, unlike the previous ones.

I thought it would be sew simple

(bad pun intended)

It's been a busy week. I've been involved with creating a local sewing and craft group with a few other like minded people.

Dove Nest

Laughing Turtle Dove

We have a Laughing Turtle Dove nesting in our yard this year. She has chosen an excellent spot with good cover. I say 'she' but this is most likely the male as they generally do the day shift.

The Phases of Life

Ruffles, buttons, ribbons, lace, cord, beads

Life is made up of all these different phases, childhood , eduction, career, family, and each phase has it's own ups and downs.

My life seems to have had more then it's fair share of different phases; in my personal life there have been phases where I was very involved in various community associations, going it alone in a new city, settling down and home making; in my work there was the hospitality phase, then retail, call centres, administration in the health industry and executive assistant work for government agencies.

Through all of the different phases of my life, the ones I've mentioned and the ones I haven't, one thing has remained consistent, my dream to create beautiful historical garments.

Two Uses Tuesday Linky Party
Two Uses Tuesday is LIVE until Thursday at 10pm EST (2am  Friday UTC).

Geri's surgery went really well and she is already making a nuisance of herself like usual. She is very unimpressed by all the indignities imposed upon her to keep her from wrecking her stitches.  In fact Geri is recovering so well we hope to have her stitches removed before the weekend, instead of next week :O)

Alternative to the Elizabethan Collar

I wonder what Elizabeth I would think of this medical device being named after her and her fashionable ruff? It certainly looks like you wouldn't be able to scratch yourself while wearing Elizabeth's stylish neck adornment.
