Which Stitch Markers Are Best

When I first took up crochet I didn't have any stitch markers, I didn't even know stitch markers existed. It wasn't long before I knew about them and I learnt the value of using stitch markers, aka stitch savers. That first frustrating experience of when a project accidentally unravels because there's nothing holding onto the stitch to stop it coming undone or your crochet circle grows in ways it isn't supposed to and the worth of this tiny tool became obvious very quickly. But there are so many styles of stitch marker to choose from, locking, circle, coil-less, plastic, safety pins, thread, 3D printed... does it really make a difference which one you use? Is it just how pretty they are? I walk you through a dozen different stitch markers from items you have lying around your home to the fancy artisan styles. I share with you what features to look for and those that don't really hold up to the task.

Meet the family

I tried really hard to get some decent photos of our fur, feather and fin family today so I could introduce them all to you. 

Instead your getting these shots. 

Loki the lorikeet

The usual result when trying to photograph a lorikeet looks like this.

With persistence I got this.

Meet Loki the Lorikeet. We figured out she was a girl when she laid eggs for the first time last year. She's sitting on eggs right now which makes her even more excitable then usual. She makes squeeky ball sounds whilst nursing her eggs.

Oscar the oscar fish

This is Oscar, he did have another name but it never stuck and yes his tank definitely needs a polish on the outside to get rid of all those drip marks.

Ada cat

Ada, named after Miss Lovelace. Turns out she isn't as smart as we thought she was. She is nearly impossible to get a photo of because she loves to put her nose against the camera lens.  

Handsome Heimdell

This suave looking fellow is Heimdell who actually didn't mind having his photo taken and posed nicely even if it was in the shadows. He's really shy and doesn't like to be touched, but he does like a bit of a chat if you happen to speak screech.

Noisy the corella

Noisy girl our other corella and she also likes to get up close and personal with the camera. She will let you pat her all day. She will also bite if she feels like it.

Sacha cat aka Fluffy the fluff monster

The Fluff Monster aka Fluffy (her real name is Sacha but we hardly ever call her that) She's my old girl - she's 14 and half and has always been super grumpy and neurotic. I'd swear she can purr and hiss at the same time.

Freki our dog

Meet Freki. We took him in because he needed a home, he's a big sooky-la-la and is absolutely as adorable as he looks. He's the reason we got Geri.

Geri the wonder dog

Geri the wonder-dog. Constantly underfoot she is definitely not even close to as innocent and adorable as she looks in this pic, but she does leave you wondering what on earth she was thinking!

    Wow!! You have a petting zoo! :) We are pretty boring around here. We have no pets. However, that will soon change b/c my sister purchase a fish bowl for my daughter for her birthday. We will probably go pick out a fish in a couple of weeks. It already has a name...Mr. Gilly. My 6 year old is the best name giver. :) I love those birds!! And that fish looks huge and amazing! I can't wait to show my girls.

    If we had children I don't think we would have this many pets but our furbabies do make the house full of love and fun. Good luck with the fish. My tip is to get the water in the fish bowl now so it can be ready for when you do get Mr Gilly in a few weeks. (awesome name)
    A birthday present is a pretty cool way to get your first pet. I love hearing how people get their pets, every pet has it's story of how it was adopted.

    Wow, you do have a big family. If my daughter had her way, we'd probably have loads of other pets too. At the moment, we only have a cat named Boots (who has been missing in awhile now, she does this occasionally). Then we have Doc, a very excitable bedlington terrier x spring spanie about 16 months old :) #animaltales.

    What lovely animals - we have 2 dogs, 4 cats plus pigs, chickens, ducks and a goat. No fish or parrots of any sort though. Many thanks for joining in with #AnimalTales and I hope you will have other animal stories for me to read over the coming weeks.

      They are definitely a handful! Especially seeing as the cats don't get on with each other and nor do the parrots. I wouldn't be without them though.

    Lucas says - Oh Wow!!!! Your house is sooooooo cool with all your animals. I keep asking the Mother for more animals as we only have Ash the Dog and 3 fish called Darth Vadar, Ben 10 & Stephen. The Mother says not yet but she doesn't mind Ash having his doggie friends comes over and play. Sometimes we end up with Riley, Pippin and Sadie sleeping over if their mums and dads have to go away. I love having loads of dogs in the house to play with. #animaltales

      Cool fish names! How awesome for Ash to have doggy playmates to come and visit. Freki and Geri were sad when their friend Sam moved away and they couldn't visit anymore.
