Perfect Granny Square Crochet Pattern

Learn how to create a seam free, single sided Crochet Granny square for perfect results every time.

The humble Granny Square is the crochet staple of Nanna's everywhere, which is how it came to be known as a 'Granny Square'. Originally it was just called a crochet square.

The Granny Square is often the very first thing we are taught when learning to crochet, so it would follow that it would be simple to have a perfect square every time and those new to crochet often get discouraged when this is not the case.

However, to get a perfect square actually requires a bit of experience, good fundamentals and advanced row starting techniques, otherwise you are left with seams, the reverse side of stitches showing every second row or even a slight spiral effect.

This granny square is made without turning your work and has a right and a wrong side.

Procrastination - the great motivator

Today is a momentous day.

Decluttering boots....finally!

I decluttered my first pair of boots.

It's possible they're vintage, I've had them for about 15 years and they were quite old when they came into my possession. It matters not. I won't wear them again. My feet won't let me.

It's time for someone else to have them.

Decluttering boots....finally! broken boots

Oh, but hang on they're broken.

I'd forgot the zip had died. I recall being quite annoyed about that at the time it happened as I'd just paid to have the heels repaired...again. Perhaps it's time they just went in the bin.

What inspired this sudden desire to say goodbye to boots when I haven't been able to bring myself to do it earlier?

Yes, procrastination turns out to be a great motivator for doing something other then what I should be doing. What I should be doing is figuring out the sewing room.

But I consider letting go of a pair of boots to be a fine start! I mean they are boots after all. Boots I tell you. BOOTS!!! Not just shoes, boooots!

  1. lovely boots and you know, your feet and closet space will thank you. Now get into that sewing room!

  2. BOOTS you say?? How brave and strong you are to get rid of BOOTS!! YAya you!!
But, don't let that victory let you rest on your laurels!
Like Crochet Hooks said, get in there, girly!! You can do it!!
    We're all rooting for you!!

  3. Congratulations on letting the boots go... it is a fine start and we are all here to cheer you on!! Close your eyes for a moment and imagine a finished sewing room... Now off to work!!

  4. I remember always getting the sudden urge to clean my room when I had a paper to write in school..procrastination is indeed a great motivator! And good for you! Getting rid of boots is really hard to do. I recently tried but I didn't get that garbage bag out of the house quick enough! Maybe next time :P
