Remember to link your Pin URL not your blog post for your chance to be featured. Every pin automatically goes in the running for the PIN AWARDS.

Hammer Head Upholstery Pin (or tack)

"The tacks used during most of the eighteenth century had hand-forged shafts and hammered heads. In 1780, tacks with cut shanks became available, but heads continued to be hammered by hand until the advent of machine-stamped heads in the early nineteenth century. Tacks were available in several sizes, and upholsterers stocked them in large quantities. 83 In 1733, John Moore purchased thousands of “large tax” and “middle tax” from the brazier Stephen Ayrault, buying 5,500 in the month of August alone. Moore also purchased “6d [penny] nails” and “20d [penny] nails” on several occasions."
